In a nutshell...
REGIONAL applicants will perform a 6 to 10 minute live audition - piece or pieces of their own choice and if selected as a finalist, perform before an adjudicator and audience, 6 to 10 minute program. The winner will be invited to perform at one of the National Final days. Remember, winning is a bonus, competing is the real value.
NATIONAL applicants submit an audition video via YouTube not exceeding 30 minutes, containing 4 pieces from each of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern periods. Concerto movements, excerpts and arrangements of pieces for other instruments are allowed. The competition provides only 1 piano.
If selected as a finalist, present 2 programs not exceeding 15 minutes each. The first must be
a piece or pieces from the Baroque and/or Classical era, the second from Romantic and/or Modern. The winner will be invited to perform with the Geelong Symphony Orchestra. Remember, our adjudicators will expect you are well on the way to mastering your instrument, so your finals performance will be judged not only technique and interpretation but also on presentation and communication. We know you can play well, show us how good you really are!
